“ANNA” – The Price of Freedom
“Anna” is a theatre production based on the original dramatic text by Dragana Lukan Nikoloski, directed by Nina Nikolikj. The work marks the world premiere of the text, which is part of the author’s project “Trilogy of Love,” alongside the plays Marta Verina and 104.
Although inspired by Anna Karenina, this drama is not an adaptation, but a contemporary, deeply intimate story that poses a timeless question:
has the world – and have we – truly changed? And does Anna finally have a chance to win today?
Anna has everything — reputation, stability, a perfect family. Yet behind closed doors lies another truth: she is invisible in her own life. Her encounter with Alexei brings passion and the illusion of freedom, but also a new dilemma: can she truly break free, or does escape become another form of captivity?
“Anna” is a drama about a woman who chooses to have a choice and pays the price of her decision. It explores marriage as a cage, rebellion that turns into new hardship, and the eternal question:
what do we lose when we try to find ourselves?
The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Goethe-Institut, and is produced as a collaboration between Peripetija Production and Comedy Theatre.
