Echoes of the Deep is an immersive, two-part VR performance that poetically explores the ecological vulnerability of Lake Ohrid. Created by a transnational creative team from North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Germany, the work is inspired by the artistic research and reflections of eight international artists who took part in the Ohrid residency.
The performance opens with a virtual journey through the lake’s unique underwater world, inviting audiences into an intimate encounter with its threatened ecosystems. It then shifts into an interactive segment where spectators engage directly with performers, confronting the environmental challenges facing the region and reflecting on humanity’s relationship with fragile natural landscapes.
The experience culminates in a participatory gesture: each audience member is invited to send a personal message to the citizens of Ohrid, fostering emotional connection, shared responsibility, and cross-border solidarity.
